Mizuno Run

It was the night before the race and admittedly I wasn’t feeling any pressure. All I felt was an overwhelming sense of NEEDING to sleep early. But I have to be honest, sometime during the night I think it dawned on me that I was running in my first run EVER, with a lot of people I might add, and so it was natural that I was a bit uneasy.
I was awake even before my alarm clock sounded but I just lay in bed waiting for 4am.
When the familiar buzzing noise from my phone started going off, I was quick to my feet and started getting ready. I knew I had to be up packing so as to make it to Wil’s place by 430.
It was time.
By around 440 I was waiting in the car for Wil and Ginie, who were both excited and anxious at the same time. I think it rubbed off on me. I was silent during the drive. I was so out of it, I almost ran over a police man who was trying to flag me down at a check point. (Ok to be fair, he was standing in the middle of an unlit road and there were no signs that there was a checkpoint! So I didn’t really know if they were policemen!)
Maybe it was just pure force of habit but I parked by the office slot. Lucky to find a slot there, I quickly pulled into the space and got down. I didn’t recognize the guard. He must be new. I started pinning my number. Ok this was it. Reality started to sink in. I’m really running!
I actually liked the small turn-out for the event. The line wasn’t too crowded and the course didn’t get to obstructed. (yes naman may mga nilalampasan na ako!) My strategy for the run? Have everyone run at the start while I just walk and fall to the back of the pack and just start running when the road relatively cleared up. My motto was, better to pass those I can than keep being passed by. I know it was a silly motto but it was fine. Ginie was a great running companion. At time though I lost her (sorry Ginie! now I know the adrenaline was taking over because I was going faster than usual!) but I did wait for her and we finished at the same time!
Ok I admit it, I had tons of fun! More fun than I expected to have and the most in a long long time.
Here are more pics from race day!
I realized that running after cute girls is GREAT motivation. I saw a couple of them actually in the 5k run. Some of them were wearing these skirts meant for Tennis or badminton! I just had to try running after them. Ginie said I was a skirt chaser, literally!
and yes, we brought a camera to the run! I will do this next run we have!
After waiting for 20 mins Wil comes running in. She ran 10k! I look longingly for water! What is THIRSTY!
BAM and their finisher shirts. Wil didn't wear hers though.
Oh good news, the shirt fits! They only had Large and ran out of XL!
I decided to show the girls one of my favorite breakfast meals. And Melissa the barista (hey that rhymes!) greeted me! She knows me because of Alex! And ginie agrees, great breakfast! So we took a picture of her. I can’t wait for the next run! I seriously had so much fun this running thing should be illegal! Another milestone for Project:Carlos!
*edit: Ok you really gotta read Wil’s entry of the race. She had a more serious entry about running. Looking at my entry now, I spent more time talking about how I felt before running than the actual run itself! But Wil was awesome! Ginie was awesome too! Thanks guys!
