The Great Escape

Wednesday, it is about 7:00 PM and I’m still in the office finishing up some work. The sun is setting earlier as usual as I noticed that at 6:00 PM the usually beautiful sunset view from our office was gone and was replaced by the lights of the different establishments opening up to the busy foot traffic of the nightlife.

I was amazed that amidst the pile of work that I had to accomplish by week’s end, I find myself sitting in our cold office sipping a Figaro Cappucino, listening to some slow-down music, and preparing myself for the final crunch of the last two days of a week full of surprises, both good and bad.

Froth

Froth

My cappucino was frothing in milky goodness and I was ready to drink. I wanted to get to work. I had a few things to accomplish before I had to go home.

Coffee and Computer

With the warm cup firmly clasped in between my stubby little fingers, I take a quick little journey in my head. I closed my eyes and decided to let go of all concerns for a few minutes. For those few short minutes I float off to my own little world. Escaping for awhile all little concerns if just for a few minutes. I dream of lying on a beach drinking a BBZ reading a good book with not a care in the world. No deadlines, no emails, no abrupt phone calls from clients looking for Judd or asking for a proposal or some questions about a campaign. Just a carefree vacation of just me, my book, and my beer. With sand between my feet and the cool sea breeze blowing steadily, I lie in endless eternity to leisurely finish my book at my pace. But a quick chirping sound of an incoming email brings me back to reality. I am again sitting, (albeit in a laid back manner) in our cold office. The flicker of the laptop screen begging to be typed on again greets my once closed eyes.

Back to Reality

Back to Reality

I am brought back to reality. The once warm sea breeze is now replaced by the steady hum of the air-conditioning unit and cold draft. I am back to the daily grind. I notice my cup now running on empty. I miss my Cappucino from Figaro.

It was nice to go on vacation even for just awhile. Now I need to plan my great escape.
